MEN'S BASKETBALL SIGNS FOUR PLAYERS AHEAD OF 2024-25 SEASON

(SAN DIEGO) Tuesday marked the first day of the fall semester at Point Loma, and the first official day as Sea Lions for four incoming PLNU Men's Basketball players.
 
Ahead of the 2024-25 season, Head Coach Justin Downer has announced the signing of one transfer and three freshmen, as the Sea Lions seek their fourth-straight PacWest Conference championship.
 
#24 Mason Shifflett
Junior | Guard | 6-4 | Shepherdsville, Ky. | University of Montevallo
  • Averaged 10.1 ppg at Montevallo
  • Played in 72 games, starting in 51
  • Averaged a career-high 14.0 ppg in 2022-23
  • Limited to two games in 2023-24 because of injury
  • 4x GSC Academic Honor Roll 
Downer said: "We couldn't be more excited to add someone with Mason's experience, perspective, and skill set to our team. Right away in the recruiting process, we knew we were talking with someone who wanted to be a part of something bigger than themselves. We are thrilled that Mason will be able to finish his career with us in San Diego."
 
#15 Tommy Wight
Freshman | Forward | 6-8 | Highlands Ranch, Colo. | Thunder Ridge
  • Averaged 14.5 ppg, 7.4 rpg, 2.5 apg and 1 bpg
  • All-Conference selection
  • 2022 6A State champion
  • 2024 6A State Runner-Up
  • All-Academic honoree
Downer said: "Size, skill, and competitiveness are things we really look for in the recruiting process. Tommy exemplifies all of those qualities, while aligning with all of our program pillars. We are looking forward to helping Tommy develop into a productive player in the PacWest Conference."
 
#21 David Scariano
Freshman | Forward | 6-7 | Imperial, Calif. | Imperial
  • Averaged 20.3 ppg, 9.5 rpg, 1.4 apg and 1.9 bpg
  • 3x All-League First Team selection
  • 2x League MVP
  • Division 5 All-State First Team
  • CIF San Diego Section champion
Downer said: "David can really shoot the ball and has gotten better every time our staff has seen him play. He had a real passion for the game and a desire to improve. We are looking forward to helping David develop into an extremely versatile player that fills it up from deep. David has a very bright future on The Point."

  • OSAA Award of Excellence for Exemplary Display of Sportsmanship, Ethics and Integrity
Downer said: "Tyler gives us speed, ball handling, and a steadiness at the guard spot. He makes everyone around him better with his ability to touch the paint, find others and being a great teammate. We are excited to add someone like Tyler that exemplifies excellence on and off the floor."

Point Loma opens its 2024-25 campaign with an exhibition at the University of Arizona on Oct. 28 before beginning the regular season at the Small College Basketball Hall of Fame Classic in Lakeland, Florida on Nov. 2-3.
