(IRVINE, Calif.) PLNU Men's Soccer scored just 38 seconds into the game on its way to taking all three points in a 3-2 road win at Concordia on Saturday evening.
Inaki Santamarina struck in the first minute of play, scoring the second-fastest goal in program history to give the Sea Lions a perfect start with his first career collegiate goal.
Gael Ruiz intercepted a CUI pass, finding
Cole Friesen to flick a ball into the path of Santamarina, who surged past the Golden Eagles defense and finished with his right foot just inside of the far-left post.
Curtis Collazos then doubled PLNU's advantage in the 35th minute to open his goal-scoring account as a Sea Lion.
Emmett Layman dribbled inside from the left wing to play Collazos, who cleverly faked a shot with his right foot to cut it back onto his left before curling a powerful effort well beyond the reach of the outstretched CUI goalkeeper.
Elijah Langford made it 3-0 Sea Lions in the 55th minute, converting from the penalty spot after he was dragged down in the box.
Concordia answered back to 10 minutes later to get on the board and then added a second with under a minute remaining in regulation, but it was too late as PLNU won its fourth straight game overall and second consecutive match to start conference play.
Point Loma (6-2-1 overall, 2-0 PacWest) returns to PacWest action on Wednesday at Biola. Kickoff in La Mirada is scheduled for 7 p.m.
