PLNU COMES BACK TO WIN FIVE-SET THRILLER AT WESTMONT

(SANTA BARBARA, Calif.) No. 6 PLNU Volleyball began its six-match road trip with a thrilling comeback win over Westmont on Friday night in Santa Barbara, overturning a 2-1 deficit to win the non-conference match in five sets (25-21, 19-25, 20-25, 26-24, 15-9).

After sweeping the Warriors in San Diego six days ago, Point Loma carried that momentum to Santa Barbara by winning the first five points of the match.

Westmont came back to lead 21-17, only for PLNU to score the final eight points of the opening stanza, with kills from Kyra Miles starting and finishing an 8-0 Sea Lions run to close out the set.

The hosts responded, however, to win sets two and three before leading 19-11 in the fourth. Point Loma answered with a 7-0 streak to get back to within one, before ultimately claiming the set and evening the match following kills from Abigail Nua and Hailey Clark.

It was all Sea Lions from there, as the visitors took an immediate 4-0 lead in the fifth after four Warriors attacking errors. Saren Rogers (10 kills) ultimately clinched the match with a kill, joining Nua (18 kills) and Jill Leslie (12 kills) in double figures in the category.

Miles (six blocks) and Finn Higginbotham (five blocks) had strong matches at the net, while Macy Reynolds (28 digs), Nua (18 digs) and Kira Federico (11 digs) all had double-digit digs.

Point Loma (16-2 overall) next travels Hawai'i for a pair of conference matches, beginning on Friday against Hawai'i Pacific.
