(SAN DIEGO) No. 2 PLNU Volleyball will play for the PacWest regular season championship on Saturday after defeating Jessup in four sets (25-16, 20-25, 25-23, 25-22) on Thursday night.
Point Loma improves to 22-3 overall (10-1 PacWest) and will play against No. 9 Fresno Pacific (22-0, 10-0) for at least a share of the conference title depending on FPU's result at Biola on Friday night.
After PLNU suffered its first loss of conference play on Wednesday against Vanguard, Thursday's match followed a similar script with Point Loma dominating in set one by the same 25-16 margin before falling in the second set.
This time, however, PLNU battled back to wins set three and four to keep its PacWest title hopes alive.
Three Sea Lions posted double-digit kills, led by
Saren Rogers' 19, which back-to-back kills to close out a tightly-contested set three.
Jill Leslie had 11 kills on an efficient .476 attack %, while
Hailey Clark had 10 on .269 hitting.
Clark's thunderous kill in set four helped swing the momentum back in PLNU's favor and put Jessup on the ropes.
Sophia Baugh dished out 43 assists, while
Kyra Miles set a career-high with seven total blocks.
Macy Reynolds (19), Baugh (13),
Kira Federico (11) and
Jolyna Salas (11) all had double-digit digs.
Point Loma and FPU previously played on Oct. 6 in Fresno, with the Sunbirds winning in four sets.
