(SAN DIEGO) The NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championships will return to The Point on Saturday.
No. 3 seed Point Loma will host No. 10 seed UCCS on Saturday at 1 p.m. on the PLNU Soccer Field with a spot in the national quarterfinals on the line.
PLNU outlasted No. 6 seed Cal State San Bernardino in a penalty kick shootout in Saturday's second round, 3-2, after the two teams played to a 2-2 draw through 110 minutes.
The Sea Lions will get to play at least one more match on their home field this season as the higher seed compared to UCCS, who advanced past two higher-seeded teams in the first and second rounds of the tournament.
The Mountain Lions beat No. 7 seed Cal State LA in penalties on Thursday after a 3-3 tie across two overtime periods, before defeating No. 2 seed Cal State Dominguez Hills on Sunday, 3-1.
Point Loma (15-3-2 overall) and UCCS (12-5-5) are both making their first ever appearances in the NCAA Tournament Third Round and have never played each other before.
PLNU, the PacWest regular season and tournament champions, is ranked No. 16 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll, while 19th-ranked UCCS won both the RMAC regular season and conference titles.
The winner between Point Loma and UCCS will advance to play in the national quarterfinals against either No. 1 seed Stanislaus State or No. 4 seed Midwestern State.
