(AZUSA, Calif.) No. 22 PLNU Men's Basketball nearly pulled off a miracle at the buzzer in Saturday's 75-73 loss at Azusa Pacific.
Â
APU took a two-point lead with just 0.4 seconds remaining before PLNU almost spectacularly sent the game to overtime.
Â
Andrew Hommes heaved a full-court pass that got deflected to
Andrew Nagy who tipped it in, but the basket was overturned after replay review deemed the shot to have taken place after the clock expired.
Â
Â
Point Loma raced out to a 45-30 halftime advantage and led by as many as 19 early in the second half.
Â
However, APU shot over 60% after halftime to chip away at PLNU's lead and go ahead at the very end of regulation.
Â
Nagy led all players with 24 points on an efficient 9-for-15 from the field, while
James Nobles had a near double-double of 10 points and nine rebounds.
Jake Lifgren and
Jack Wistrcill both scored nine points apiece off the bench.
Â
Point Loma (8-3 overall, 3-2 PacWest) returns to conference action at Dominican on Jan. 1. Tip-off in San Rafael is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. on New Year's Day.
