(AZUSA, Calif.) PLNU Women's Basketball had its eight-game winning streak end on Saturday afternoon, as Azusa Pacific gave Point Loma its first loss in PacWest play this season with a 72-65 victory over the Sea Lions.

PLNU stormed out to a 20-12 lead after the first quarter, only for APU to outscore Point Loma 24-12 in the second.

The Sea Lions then got back to within two after three, before
Ruby Vlahov's 5-0 run in the fourth restored PLNU's lead.

Izzy Navarro hit a pair of free throws to put Point Loma up 65-62 with 2:52 to play, but the Cougars held the Sea Lions scoreless the rest of the way to spoil PLNU's perfect start to conference action.

Vlahov (9 rebounds) led the team with 20 points in her near double-double performance.
Maddie Mersch (13 points) and
Eiley Tippins (12 points, 7 rebounds) joined her in double figures, with that trio helping Point Loma outscore Azusa Pacific 32-20 in points in the paint.

Navarro had nine points and seven assists, while
Hannah Golan led all players with 12 rebounds.

APU held PLNU to just 4-for-24 (16.7%) from 3-point range, with Vlahov making three of those triples.

Point Loma (8-3 overall, 4-1 PacWest) returns to PacWest play on Jan. 1 at Dominican. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
