SEA LIONS HONOR SENIORS WITH WIN OVER WESTMONT

(SAN DIEGO) PLNU Women's Basketball closed out the regular season on a nine-game winning streak, defeating Westmont 57-39 on Saturday inside Golden Gym on Senior Day.

Point Loma honored Shayla O'Neil, Annika Thayer, Alli McDonald and Tavia Rowell in a pregame ceremony prior to their final home games as Sea Lions, with all four contributing significantly to the win.

Rowell got the hosts started quickly with a 3-pointer before McDonald took over from there on her way to a game-high 18 points to go along with seven rebounds.

PLNU closed the first quarter on an 6-0 run, with O'Neil's layup giving the Sea Lions a 16-8 advantage after one.

Grace Moyers then hit back-to-back 3-pointers to start the second quarter to make it a 12-0 run overall for Point Loma.

After leading by 11 at the half, a trio of free throws from Moyers put PLNU up by 19 before Thayer gave the Sea Lions their largest lead of the game (21) in the fourth quarter.

For the game, Point Loma held Westmont to just 19.2% shooting, while outscoring the Warriors 28-8 in points in the paint. The 39 points allowed are PLNU's fewest since Feb. 5, 2022 against Holy Names.

Moyers and Rowell nearly joined McDonald in double figures with nine points each, while O'Neil had seven. Hannah Golan added a season-high 10 rebounds.

Point Loma (23-5 overall, 18-2 PacWest) now enters the postseason as the No. 1 seed in next week's PacWest Championships.

PLNU will have a first-round bye before playing in the semifinals on Friday at 2:45 p.m.
