PLNU MEN'S BASKETBALL TO HOST REGIONAL AS NO. 1 SEED

3/9/2025 10:40:00 PM

(SAN DIEGO) For the second time in three seasons, the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball West Regional is returning to The Point.

Point Loma was named the No. 1 seed in this year's regional, as announced on Sunday night, marking the third time in program history that Golden Gym will host the eight-team West Regional.

Top-seeded PLNU (27-5 overall, 18-2 PacWest) will be matched up with No. 8 seed Seattle Pacific (18-14, 11-7 GNAC) in the regional first round, to be played on Friday at 5 p.m.

Point Loma and SPU played earlier this season on Nov. 29, when the Sea Lions defeated the Falcons 82-68 during the PLNU Thanksgiving Classic.

Seattle Pacific went on to tie for third in the GNAC regular season standings before winning three games in three days to win the GNAC Tournament and earn the conference's automatic berth into the NCAA West Regional.

The winner of that game will advance to the regional semifinals on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. to take on either fourth-seeded Biola or fifth-seeded Cal State San Bernardino.

The other side of the regional bracket features No. 2 seed Cal State Dominguez Hills, No. 3 seed Chico State, No. 6 seed Central Washington and No. 7 seed Northwest Nazarene.

The regional championship game is scheduled for Monday, March 17 at 7 p.m.

Point Loma won the PacWest regular season championship after tying a program record for most wins in the regular season (25).

The Sea Lions then went on to win the PacWest Tournament title, defeating Academy of Art on Saturday in San Rafael, 67-64.

PLNU has now won the PacWest Tournament on four occasions, extending its own conference record.

Golden Gym previously served as the host for the West Regional in 2018-19 and 2022-23, when Point Loma finished as national runner-up (2018-19) and reached the regional championship game (2022-23).
