SEA LIONS' SEASON ENDS JUST SHY OF SUPER REGIONALS

(NAMPA, Idaho) No. 4 seed PLNU Baseball gave No. 1 seed Northwest Nazarene everything it could handle in the NCAA West Regional, losing narrowly to the Nighthawks by a 3-2 score that left the Sea Lions one game shy of a third Super Regional appearance in four years.

Point Loma finishes the season with a 39-18 overall record following a fourth-straight regional appearance.

After being held without a run for the first six innings, PLNU took the lead in the seventh, scoring both of its runs with two outs.

Josiah Rodriguez singled for the second of his two hits on the day. Then with two outs, Jake Schwartz was hit by a pitch and Owen May walked to bring up Bryson Hashimoto with the bases loaded.

Rodriguez then scampered home on a wild pitch to tie the game before Hashimoto walked to reload the bases. Aiden Arriaga then walked himself to score the go-ahead run.

NNU managed to get out of the bases-loaded jam and retook the lead with a pair of runs in the bottom half to go back up by one.

Colin Driscoll got the start on the mound and pitched admirably, allowing just a single run in his three innings of work. Christian Williams then threw three scoreless frames to keep PLNU within one.

Schwartz attempted to start a ninth-inning rally for the Sea Lions with a one-out base hit. Owen May put a scare into the home crowd with a deep flyout to the warning track in right center that might have left the yard on a day that it wasn't sprinkling.

Pinch runner Jack Ryan stole second to get a runner in scoring position with two outs, only for the Nighthawks to hold on and deny the Sea Lions a third Super Regional appearance in four seasons.
