NO. 20 SEA LIONS SWEEP NO. 10 BRONCOS ON DIG PINK NIGHT

(SAN DIEGO) No. 20 PLNU Volleyball swept its opponent for the second straight match, this time defeating No. 10 Cal Poly Pomona (25-18, 26-24, 25-19) on Dig Pink Night in Golden Gym.

After presenting the game ball in honor of her mother who beat breast cancer, Gianna Callari opened the match with a kill, which sent the Sea Lions on their way to their biggest win of the season.

Kyra Miles led the team in kills (11) and blocks (7), with a pair of those kills bookending a 4-0 Point loma run that put the hosts up 11-4 in the opening stanza.

Jolyna Salas' service ace then extended Point Loma's advantage to as many as eight, as PLNU led by no fewer than three the rest of the set, which Kaitlyn Cabral clinched with a kill.

The Broncos battled back to lead 23-21 in the second stanza before a kill and block from Miles tied it up. The visitors then earned set point, only for the Sea Lions to score three straight points and take a 2-0 match lead.

PLNU then trailed 12-13 in the third before consecutive aces from Ila Rose, the NCAA Division II leader in service aces per set, capped off a 5-0 Point Loma run that gave the Sea Lions firm control of what proved to be the final set.

Hailey Clark then capped off the sweep with a kill to make it three sweeps in four matches for the Sea Lions.

Following Miles' 11 kills, Cabral had eight kills, while Clark and Callari each had seven. Sophia Baugh dished out 31 assists.

Back-to-back PacWest Defender of the Week Kira Federico led all players with 20 digs, with Salas joining her in double figures with 10.

Point Loma (11-4 overall), on a season-long four-match winning streak, has the weekend off before returning to the court on Wednesday to play at No. 12 Cal State San Bernardino.
