(SAN DIEGO) PLNU Women's Basketball clinched the No. 2 seed in the PacWest Championships with a 67-58 win over Westmont on Senior Day on Saturday afternoon in Golden Gym.
As the No. 2 seed, the Sea Lions will receive a first-round bye and advance straight to the conference semifinals on Friday, with the Point Loma hosting the six-team conference tournament.
Eiley Tippins beat the first-half buzzer to give PLNU a 29-26 lead going into the locker room, before the Sea Lions outscored the Warriors by 12 in the third quarter to take a 15-point advantage into the final period.
Westmont battled back to get to within four in the fourth, but crucial free throws from
Maddie Morrow and a fastbreak layup from Tippins sealed the second seed for the Sea Lions.
Tippins' late layup helped her eclipse 1,000 points for her PLNU career, doing so in fitting fashion on Senior Day.
In addition to her free throws down the stretch, Morrow made a trio of 3-pointers to lead the team with a career-high 14 points.
Tippins scored 13 points, while
Hannah Golan had a near double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds.
PLNU outrebounded Westmont, the No. 2 rebounding team in NCAA Division II, 42-40.
Point Loma (21-7 overall, 17-5 PacWest) will play either No. 3 seed Azusa Pacific or No. 6 seed Concordia in the PacWest semifinals on Friday.
The Sea Lions have reached the conference semis in each of Head Coach
Charity Elliott's five seasons in charge.
