PLNU REACHES REGIONAL QUARTERS FOR THIRD-STRAIGHT YEAR

(ELLENSBURG, Wash.) No. 7 seed PLNU Women's Basketball started fast and led at the half before No. 2 seed Western Washington came back to defeat the Sea Lions in the NCAA West Regional quarterfinals on Friday afternoon.

Point Loma jumped out to an immediate 8-0 lead, as Izzy Navarro and Maddie Morrow hit 3-pointers to get the Sea Lions off to a strong start.

PLNU led 18-13 after the first quarter before WWU fought back to take the lead in the second quarter.

Navarro's fourth 3-pointer of the opening half then capped off a stretch of three-straight 3's for the Sea Lions, as Point Loma took a 34-32 advantage into the locker room.

However, the Vikings came out firing in the third with three-consecutive triples of their own as part of a 16-0 run to open the third quarter.

PLNU played WWU even the rest of the way, with Maddie Morrow's third made 3-pointer of the game getting the Sea Lions to within single digits in the final quarter.

Navarro scored a team-high 20 points and had nine assists to lead all players. Morrow nearly joined her in double figures with her nine points, as did Eiley Tippins and Hannah Golan with eight apiece.

Point Loma (21-9 overall) reached the NCAA West Regional for the third-straight season for the first time in program history, while also eclipsing 20-plus wins in back-to-back years for the first time.
