(AZUSA, Calif.) No. 4 PLNU Baseball won its sixth-straight series to open PacWest play for the first time in program history after sweeping Saturday's doubleheader at Azusa Pacific in dramatic fashion.
Following an 11-4 victory in the first game of the day, Point Loma clinched the series with a 10-run final inning in game two to win 15-8.
Trailing by three in the series finale entering the top of the seventh,
Ryan Ruch's bases-clearing triple gave the Sea Lions the lead before both
Owen May and
Aiden Arriaga followed that up with two-run homers.
That 10-run inning was PLNU's third of the season and second this series, which followed up a nine-run fourth inning in game one.
Mason Cook launched a two-run shot and
Jake Schwartz hit Point Loma's second grand slam of the season, as the offense provided more than enough run support for Sea Lions' starter
Devin Norton, who pitched six innings of one-run ball while striking out seven.
Point Loma (27-4 overall, 23-1 PacWest) has now scored double-digit runs in nine of 10 games.
PLNU hosts Concordia on Friday in Carroll B. Land Stadium with a doubleheader slated to start at noon.
