(SAN DIEGO) PLNU Women's Tennis reached double-digit wins on the season, while winning its ninth-straight match, a 4-3 home victory over Biola on Saturday.
Point Loma cruised in doubles, as
Melissa Zirkle and
Zoe Moley teamed up to win 6-1 at No. 3, before
Alina Kupfer and
Perla Conde Vendrell clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 victory at No. 2.
After the Eagles evened the match with a win at No. 2 singles, the Sea Lions reclaimed the lead as Emely Valencia (No. 3) and
Alina Kupfer (No. 1) won within seconds of each other to put PLNU up 3-1.
Valencia's delicate drop shot finished off her three-set victory (6-1, 3-6, 6-2), while Kupfer broke her opponent's serve at 5-5 in the second before holding her own to win 7-5, 7-5.
BU came back to win at No. 4 singles, leaving the fate of the match up to courts No. 5 and 6.
At No. 5 singles, Moley recovered from a narrow first-set loss to win 6-4 in the second and set up a winner-take-all third set. In the final stanza, she earned a break of serve to go up 2-0 before winning four of the next five games to clinch the team victory for the Sea Lions.
Point Loma (10-2 overall) returns to the PLNU Tennis Courts on Tuesday to host Missouri-St. Louis at 4 p.m.
