(HAYWARD, Calif.) The PacWest regular season and tournament champions PLNU Men's Basketball is the No. 3 seed in next week's NCAA West Regional, as announced by the NCAA on Sunday night.
Point Loma (25-5 overall, 18-4 PacWest) will play against No. 6 seed Northwest Nazarene (18-10, 12-6 GNAC) on Friday at noon in the regional quarterfinals hosted by Cal State East Bay in Hayward.
The winner will advance to play either No. 2 seed Saint Martin's or No. 7 seed Hawai'i Pacific in the regional semifinals on Saturday.
PLNU made a PacWest Tournament record 20 3-pointers in Saturday's championship game vs. Westmont, which the Sea Lions won by a 94-69 margin to earn the conference's automatic berth into the NCAA postseason.
Point Loma is making its second-straight regional appearance and eighth in the last nine seasons.
NNU earned an at-large berth into the regional after finishing third in the GNAC regular season standings. The Nighthawks are making their fourth ever regional appearance and third in the last four years.
The Sea Lions have reached the regional championship game in two of the previous three postseasons and won the region back in 2018-19 on their way to finishing as national runner-up.
Point Loma and Northwest Nazarene are facing each other in the NCAA West Regional for the third time, with PLNU and NNU splitting the previous two matchups. The Sea Lions won the most recent postseason game between the two teams, 78-64, back in 2023.
