(SAN DIEGO) The Sea Lions are Supers Bound once again.
For the third time in five seasons, PLNU Baseball will play in the NCAA Super Regionals after a 10-9 West Regional victory over Cal State San Bernardino in 10 innings.
Tommy Molina provided the go-ahead base hit with two outs in the top of the 10th before
Hank Smith closed the door on the Yotes to seal the Sea Lions' spot among the final 16 teams in NCAA Division II.
Point Loma trailed 8-5 after seven innings until
Jake Schwartz's two-RBI double into the right field corner sparked a three-run eighth that tied the game.
Levi Ham pinched hit and doubled to left to put PLNU, the designated visiting team, in front in the top of the ninth before CSUSB tied it up with a run in the bottom half to force extras.
Moments after subbing into the game as a defensive replacement,
Tyler Stull made an incredible pick at first base to complete an inning-ending double play to end the ninth.
Stull then got the hosts going in the top of the 10th with a base hit through the right side before scoring the game-winning run on Molina's go-ahead single.
Tristan Moore doubled off the wall in the third to open the scoring, tying the PLNU single-season RBI record with his 74th RBI of the season.
Mason Cook later gave the Sea Lions the lead again with a two-RBI single up the middle in the fifth.
Smith earned his third win of the season, pitching 3.1 innings and allowing only a single run while striking out two.
Saturday's second game was played after CSUSB defeated PLNU, 5-2, in game one. Cook homered for the third time in four games to highlight the Sea Lions' offense before PLNU responded with an epic extra-winning win in the nightcap.
No. 2 seed Point Loma (47-11 overall) will now host No. 5 seed Northwest Nazarene () in next week's Super Regionals in a matchup of the last two West Region champions.
Game one is slated for noon on Thursday, with game two scheduled for Friday at the same time.
An if-necessary game three would be played on Saturday at noon to determine the West Regional champions and a berth to the NCAA Division II World Series in Cary, N.C.
