(SAN DIEGO) No. 7 PLNU Men's Soccer battled back in the second half to earn a 1-1 draw with RV Cal State San Bernardino in the team's season opener on Thursday afternoon.
"We weren't quite sharp, but I think overall at the end of the day, I told the group that I think it's going to look like a good result just because I think they're a good team," Wolf said.
In a rematch of last year's NCAA Tournament Second Round matchup that PLNU won in penalties, CSUSB struck first in just the 10th minute.
The scoreline remained the same until the second half when the Sea Lions captured the momentum.
Matthew Vogel was tripped up in the 18-yard box but no penalty was given on the field nor after a PLNU challenge.
However, a second video review went in Point Loma's favor in the 67th minute.
Cole Friesen found the back of the net with a calm right-footed volley off an inch-perfect
Evan Youngflesh cross but was initially ruled to have been offside.
But after PLNU's second and final challenge of the contest, the center official ultimately overturned the assistant referee's initial decision and awarded Friesen's goal that tied up the score.
"I'm glad for Cole," Wolf said. "For him to score a goal coming out of the midfield like that, he has great striker's instincts."
Point Loma continued to push forward in search of a winner, but the two teams ultimately shared the spoils on the opening day of the 2026 season.
"That's been a hard team for us to generate a lot of chances against, so I'm happy for the guys," Wolf said. "I'm proud they went for it in the second half."
PLNU returns home on Saturday to host Cal Poly Pomona at 1 p.m.
"It's going to be really hard," Wolf said. "You have to rotate the team and Pomona is one of the best teams historically, so it's going to be a really tough ask."
