SEA LIONS STRIKE LATE TO TIE TOROS ON THE ROAD

(CARSON, Calif.) Jack Merrill scored from the penalty spot with under a minute remaining in regulation to earn PLNU Men's Soccer a 1-1 draw at Cal State Dominguez Hills on Wednesday night.

In a matchup between the reigning PacWest and CCAA Conference champions, CSUDH struck first in the 33rd minute.

Point Loma them put the pressure on the Toros' goal in the second half in particular, outshooting Cal State Dominguez Hills by a 14-4 margin after halftime.

The Sea Lions forced five saves in total, including three in the second half, in search of an equalizer.

In the closing minutes, PLNU sent everyone up on a corner kick, including goalkeeper Jeremy Caringella. The Sea Lions' shot stopper then won the ensuing header that hit a CSUDH defender's arm and bounced off the crossbar.

After a VAR review, Point Loma was awarded a penalty kick, which freshman midfielder Jack Merrill stepped up and buried for his team-leading second goal of the season and earn the Sea Lions a share of the spoils.

PLNU outshot CSUDH 18-7 in the game.

After three straight road matches, Point Loma (1-2-2 overall) returns home on Saturday to host Cal State Monterey Bay at 1 p.m.
