(SAN DIEGO) PLNU Women's Golf swept the PacWest weekly awards after a stellar season-opening tournament at the RJGA Shootout at Estrella.
Summer Schafer earned PacWest Golfer of the Week honors after her runner-up individual finish, while Point Loma was tabbed as the conference's Team of the Week following its third place finish out of 16 teams.
Schafer shot an even-par first round of 72 to sit in a tie for sixth after one round before carding a three-under round of 69 on Tuesday to move up into second place.
She began her day with an eagle on the par-four first and totaled three birdies in the round (six in the tournament) for her best individual career finish as a Sea Lion.
Point Loma finished round one in fourth place after compiling a 294, before moving up one spot on the leaderboard with a one-shot improvement in round two (293).
Annika Yturralde (T-6th) joined Schafer in the top-10 while
Allie Nguyen (T-23rd) moved up 24 spots on day two to finish in the top-25 along with
Estibaly Garcia (T-25th).
PLNU returns to competition at the Westminster Wasatch Invitational in South Jordan, Utah on Sep. 20-21.
