(SOUTH JORDAN, Utah) PLNU Women's Golf won the Westminster Wasatch Invite, while
Annika Yturralde placed first as an individual at Glenmoor G.C. in Point Loma's second tournament of the season.
In the first round, the Sea Lions tied a single-round program record with a team score of 284 (-4) before shooting 293 (+5) in the second round to win the tournament by 14 strokes over second place. PLNU's two-round score of 577 is the second best in program history.
Yturralde shot back-to-back rounds under-par, firing a two-under 70 in the first round and following that up with a one-under 71 to finish atop the individual leaderboard by two shots.
Yturralde,
Estibaly Garcia (T-2nd) and
Summer Schafer (5th) finished the first round tied for the individual lead and were in a three-way tie through 13 holes in round two. Yturralde and Garcia were still tied through 16 before her birdie on the par-four 17th put her in solo first place.
Across the two rounds, Yturralde shot four-under on par-fours, five shots better than anyone else in the field.
Cristen Legaspi moved up 18 spots on the leaderboard after round two, shooting a 75 to finish tied for 20th.
Allie Nguyen (T-28th) also placed in the top-30.
Garcia (-3), Schafer (-2) and Nguyen (-2) all shot under-par on par-five holes, while Legaspi shot even on par-threes. Garcia's eight total birdies ranked second in the tournament, with Yturralde's and Schafer's seven tied for third among all players.
Point Loma returns to competition at the Westmont Invitational, Oct. 12-13.
