PLNU History
2011‐12: The 2011‐12 season was the first for the Sea Lions. PLNU competed in nine tournaments during the season, highlighted by a second‐place finish at the NAIA Qualifying Tournament. Point Loma advanced to the NAIA National Tournament. PLNU ended the year ranked No. 20. Notching the first medalist honors for the Sea Lions was Andrea Mersino after she won the Escondido Women’s Intercollegiate Tournament hosted by California Baptist. Mersino was the only Point Loma player to qualify for the final round of NAIA Tournament competition, placing 25th.
2012‐13: The PLNU women's golf team was not eligible for postseason play during their transition to the NCAA, but the team still enjoyed success on the course while competing in their first‐ever Pacific West Conference Championships and at the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) National Tournament. PLNU competed in the NCCAA National Tournament in October. The Sea Lions finished fourth as a team (322, +34) and had four student‐athletes place in the top 25. Mersino led the way by tying for sixth place with a 13‐over, 157.
PLNU closed out its second season at the PacWest Championships. The team collected a fifth place finish. Samantha Stockton led the way with a 17‐over 161 to earn first team all‐conference honors. Mersino and Crossley also took home all‐conference honors after finishing in 15th and 18th place, respectively.
2013‐14: The PLNU women's golf team enjoyed a 10 tournament schedule, including hosting two tournaments and a dual. The Sea Lions posted their best‐ever finish at the NCCAA Championships when they took fourth place.
Kathleen Crossley tied for 11th at the three‐day tournament with a 15‐over, 231. At the PacWest Championships, Point Loma took fourth place, after being edged by one stroke by Academy of Art on the final hole of the tournament. Alyssa Orito led all Sea Lions as she placed seventh with a 6‐over, 78 to earn first team All‐PacWest honors. She was joined on the All‐PacWest team by Kathleen Crossley, Annika Nousiainen and Andrea Mersino, whom all earned second team honors.
2014‐15: This season marked numerous firsts in the history of the PLNU women's golf program. The team captured the first and second team tournament titles this season winning both the Cal State San Marcos Fall Invite and the CSUSM Cougar Invitational in the Spring. Kathleen Crossley also won the individual title at the CSUSM Spring Invite to mark the third individual title for a PLNU golfer, and the first time the Sea Lions had ever had a team and individual win at the same tournament. Haley Fuller also capture the individual title at the PLNU Fall Invitational hosted at Torrey Pines by one stroke. The team set the school record by recording three different round with a 300 (+12). This was this first year for the Sea Lions as an active member in the NCAA. PLNU battled for one of the nine places in the NCAA Super Regional IV but fell one spot short as they came in 10th in the final poll.
2015‐16: The 2015‐16 season will go down as the best season for PLNU women's golf in its young history. The Sea Lions doubled their tournament wins (four) from the previous four seasons while earning their first berth into the NCAA Super Regional. PLNU earned the No. 7 seed in the NCAA Super West Regional in coach Noel Allen's first season at the helm. PLNU was one of 12 teams to make the Super Regional (area includes the West and Southwest regions). Haley Fuller and Michelle Picca played great at the regional, tying for eighth and 12th, respectively. Fuller was just one stroke off earning the right to play for in the NCAA Championships as an individual. Point Loma placed third at the PacWest Women's Golf Championships and Michelle Picca tied for first before going to a playoff hole to determine the individual champion. Fuller, Picca, and Stockton each earned All‐PacWest honors, with Picca and Stockton capturing first team awards.
2016‐17: The year did not go as the Sea Lions would have envisioned. They stumbled out of the gate and never seemed to regain their footing despite returning four starters from their 2016 NCAA Regional Team. PLNU's season highlight was Haley Fuller finishing second in PLNU Reach 2017. She would go on to earn second team All‐PacWest and CoSIDA Academic All‐District honors. This was her third straight season earning All‐PacWest and second straight on the CoSIDA All‐District team.
2017‐18: PLNU put a young squad out on the course. Freshmen Christine Perez and Summer Marshall were the team's top performers following the departure of Michelle Picca. The Sea Lions' top finish came at the MJGA Collegiate Invitational where they placed fourth. PLNU would finish eighth at the PacWest Championships to close out its season.
2018‐19: The 2018‐19 saw Alli Kim join the team and rewrite many of the Sea Lions individual record books during the season. She won four tournaments, matching the four PLNU individuals had won in the seven‐year history of the program. Kim would take second place at the PacWest Championships, and earn the right to play as an individual in the NCAA Super Regional in Amarillo, Texas. She finished 25th as an individual at the Super Regional, the highest finish among all six of the student‐athletes competing as individuals. As a team, PLNU won the CA State Intercollegiate title, and Kim took home the individual title, marking the second time in program history that Point Loma took home the team and individual title from the same tournament. Alli Kim and PLNU team would also take first place in the Augustana Spring Fling. At the PacWest Championships, the Sea Lions finished third, and Alli Kim tied for second. She would earn the right to go on to play in the NCAA Super Regional as the first Sea Lion to ever earn a bid as an at‐large individual. PLNU matched its school‐record with four All‐PacWest selections.
2019‐20: The 2019‐20 season was cut short due to the COVID‐19 Pandemic. The Sea Lions completed four events in the fall and three more in the spring, but the postseason and championship portion of their schedule were canceled. During the fall season, Alli Kim earned two PacWest Player of the Week honors, and five Sea Lions captured PacWest All‐Academic honors.
2020‐21: Although it was a shortened season due to the COVID‐19 pandemic, the PLNU women's golf put together its most successful season. The Sea Lions won their first three tournaments of the year, and four of their first five, including the PacWest Championship. This was the first conference title in program history and sent the Sea Lions to the NCAA Super Regional with the league's automatic bid. At the regional the Sea Lions placed sixth, their highest finish in program history. A pair of Sea Lion golfers also won individual titles this season with senior Alli Kim winning the Bay Area Invitational and freshman Nicola Kaminski winning the RJGA Palm Valley Classic. Each took home PacWest Player of the Week awards after their tournament victories. In the end, five Sea Lions earned All‐ PacWest honors, Nicola Kaminski was named the PacWest Freshman of the Year and Lance Hancock earned PacWest Coach of the Year honors.
