Demetre Kokoris is in his second season as the pitching coach with the Point Loma baseball team. He took over the pitching program in January of 2017.
In the first season under Kokoris' tutelage, the PLNU pitching staff posted a 3.96 earned run average to rank third in the PacWest and 39th in the country. The Sea Lions also ranked 17th nationally in WHIP (1.30) and 16th in walks allowed per 9 innings (2.79). Kellen Sheppard and Stephen Young were both named to the All-PacWest team, and Young even picked up all-region honors.
Prior to coming to PLNU, Kokoris coached at Santa Barbara City College the University of Oregon, and the University of South Carolina. He was also a head coach with the Central Oregon Bucks.
"Demetre is a real high energy guy with an excellent knowledge of pitching, he's worked with some great coaches in the past," said Schaefer. "He has run the same weighted ball program as departing coach Justin James, so he should be part of a seamless transition. He garners respect immediately and the pitching staff has bought into everything he has done over his first few weeks."
