Brett Evans joined the Point Loma Nazarene University men’s soccer program in 2016 and brings more than 15 years of coaching experience, along with an accomplished playing career in South Africa, to the Sea Lions.
Originally from South Africa, Evans spent 13 seasons with Ajax Cape Town, making more than 300 appearances for the club and earning 10 caps with the South African national team. His playing career provided him with extensive experience at the professional level and shaped his passion for player development, leadership and building competitive team environments.
Evans began his coaching career in 2010 with the Ajax Cape Town youth academy, working with the club’s U12 program. After moving to the United States in 2013, he joined Albion SC, where he served as a head coach before becoming the club’s Development Director from 2016 through 2021. During his time with Albion, Evans worked extensively with youth players and played a key role in developing players for the collegiate level.
Evans joined the Point Loma men’s soccer staff in 2016 and has been an integral part of the program’s recruiting, player development and day to day operations. His experience within both the professional and youth soccer environments has given him a unique perspective on developing players and preparing them for the demands of collegiate soccer.
He holds a US Soccer Federation B License and is passionate about helping student athletes maximize their potential both on and off the field. His coaching philosophy centers on technical development, tactical understanding, competitiveness, accountability and creating a team culture in which players are challenged to grow and succeed.
Evans has been part of the San Diego soccer community for more than a decade and continues to work closely with players and families throughout the region. He and his family reside in San Diego.
