Ryan Carruth

Carruth joined the Sea Lions coaching staff in 2013 after six years of collegiate coaching experience and numerous others as a director and coach at the club level. In his first year he helped Point Loma put together a five-match turnaround as the Sea Lions go 7-8-3 (including finishing 5-4-3 and in sixth in the PacWest) after collecting just two wins the season prior to his arrival.

In his last stint prior to PLNU Carruth was an assistant with the San Diego State men's soccer team with a focus on scouting and recruiting. Carruth has served as an assistant for two seasons at both the United State Merchant Marines Academy (2007-09) and St. Lawrence University (2004-05 & 2006-07).

“I can’t tell you how pleased I am that Ryan has decided to join our staff at Point Loma," coach Wolf said. "He has a wide range of experiences as both a player and as a coach and these experiences will be a massive help to us as we move our program forward."

Prior to pacing the sidelines Carruth enjoyed a very successful collegiate career at St. Lawrence University. He starred for the team from 1997-2001 where he was the leading scorer on a team that went undefeated (22-0-0) and won the 1999 NCAA Division II National Championship. He was named an NSCAA/Adidas All-American that season and is seventh on the school's all-time scoring list with 67 points (29 goals, nine assists).

“What I am most excited about Ryan’s arrival to Point Loma is that Ryan was part of a special program at St. Lawrence under the direction of Bob Durocher," added Wolf. "The program at St. Lawrence understands that a culture of work, a culture of unity and friendship as well as a culture of soccer excellence must precede reaching the championship level. Very few players experience this type of program and I am so glad to have Ryan on staff to share his experiences at St. Lawrence.”

"Ryan has spent the last four years at Albion Soccer Club as their college coordinator and one of their lead staff coaches, and now as a member of the prestigious Surf Academy program as he continues to grow in the game," said Wolf.

Carruth graduated from St. Lawrence in 2002 with his undergraduate degree. He earned his Master's degree in Education Administration from St. Lawrence in 2007. Carruth is also well educated within the soccer ranks as he has his USSF 'B' License and NSCAA national diploma.
