Matthew Mims

Matthew Mims is in his second year as an assistant coach with the Point Loma men's and women's tennis teams. In addition to all his practice duties, Mims also oversees the team's conditioning.
 
In his first season with the Sea Lions, the men's team went 12-11 and Andre Staab became PLNU's first-ever male NCAA Division II All-American. The Point Loma men's team climbed to No. 25 in the ITA rankings before finishing the year ranked No. 26. Three Sea Lions earned All-PacWest honors and CJ Erion was named the PacWest Freshman of the Year.
 
In 2015, the women's team was ranked in the top 25 throughout the season but they found their rhythm at the season as they made a run to the consolation title at the PacWest Championships. PLNU dropped all three doubles points before fighting back to upset Sonoma State and then came back from a 2-1 deficit after doubles to defeat Azusa Pacific 5-3 in the consolation match. Freshman Nikki Newell earned second team All-PacWest honors.
 
Mims brings nearly 11 years of experience to the Sea Lions' coaching staff. He had stops at as personal coach, the Sycuan Resort and at the Barnes Tennis Center. He played college tennis at Grossmont University while earning his degree in Business Management from San Diego State.
 
Mims is a native of San Diego and a 2009 graduate of El Capitan High School.
