PLNU Women's Track & Field has announced the hiring of Curtis Beach as an Assistant Coach ahead of the upcoming 2025 season.
"Coach Takata and I are very excited to welcome Curtis into our coaching staff," Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Jake Poyner said. "His elite experience as a competitor at the highest levels in our sport along with his coaching expertise and passionate desire to help positively impact the growth of our student-athletes will be fantastic for Sea Lion Track & Field."
Beach brings a wealth of high-level experience with him to The Point, where he will primarily work with PLNU's vertical and horizontal jumps.
As a standout track & field athlete at Duke, Beach was a two-time NCAA national champion in the heptathlon in 2012 and 2014. When he won the indoor heptathlon in 2012, Beach ran a heptathlon 1000 meter world record time. He also finished second at the NCAA Championships in the outdoor heptathlon in 2011.
He also excelled in the classroom, earning Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards from Duke and the Atlantic Coast Conference, while receiving CoSIDA Academic All-America® recognition.
After his Duke career, Beach competed professionally for over three years, being ranked in the top-five in the combined events in the world on three occasions. In 2016, he won a U.S. indoor national championship, and placed fourth at the World Indoor Championships.
For the past decade, the four-time Team U.S.A. member has accumulated coaching experience at Duke, the U.S. Olympic Training Center and Spire Academy. Beach is a native of Albuquerque, New Mexico.Â
"I'm thrilled to join the PLNU Track & Field staff to help elevate the program and create a fulfilling experience for the team," Beach said. "Thank you to Coach Poyner, Coach Takata, and the rest of the staff for the opportunity. I can't wait to get started."
