Jacqui McSorley

The 2014-15 season will mark the fourth for McSorley at the helm of the Sea Lions women's golf program. She has been with the women's golf program since its inception prior to the 2011-12 season. McSorley joined the PLNU athletic staff on July 22, 2010, to build the program from scratch one year prior to embarking on their inaugural season.

During the 2014-15 season, four Sea Lions captured All-PacWest Conference, including Alyssa Orito who earned first team honors. The team placed fourth at both the PacWest Championships and the NCCAA Invitational Tournament. The PLNU women's golf team also thrived in the classroom in 2014-15 under McSorley. Andrea Mersino was named to the prestigious WGCA All-American Scholar Athlete team and the team earned NCCAA Scholar Team honors with a team GPA of 3.43.

In 2012-13, Point Loma tied for fourth at the NCCAA Invitational and placed fifth at the PacWest Championships. Three Sea Lions also earned All-PacWest honors.

Despite a very young roster and a challenging schedule in 2011-12 the season was an overall success. Point Loma competed in nine tournaments and finished in the top-5 on four different occasions, including a second-place showing at the GSAC/ Cal Pac/ CCC NAIA Qualifying Tournament. That result propelled the PLNU ladies to the NAIA Championships. In a year of firsts, it was freshman Andrea Mersino who notched the first individual title when she medaled at the Escondido Women’s Intercollegiate Tournament. She was the also the first Sea Lion to shoot below 70 (69).

McSorley was named the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Teaching and Club Professional (T&CP) Western Section Coach of the Year in October of 2013.

A native of San Diego, McSorley played professionally and has taught golf for nearly 25 years. She is currently an LPGA Class A member who teaches at Encinitas Ranch Golf Course. She is co-director of the junior golf program there as well as the LPGA USGA Girl’s Golf San Diego Site Director. McSorley teaches golfers of all ages and is passionate about the growth of the game, providing summer golf camps. In 2007 she co-authored the book, "Golf Guide for Parents and Players: Secrets of Success for Junior & College Golf, Professional and Beyond."

An accomplished golfer, McSorley prepped at Point Loma High School where she was captain of the boy's golf team in 1980. That same year she was named both the San Diego Junior Golfer of the Year and the San Diego PGA Section Player of the Year. She received a golf scholarship and played collegiately at USC, earning all-conference status as a senior.

After graduating from USC with a degree in Sports Information, McSorley spent seven years as a touring professional and member of the Japan LPGA and Asian tours. During that time she won over 15 Pro-Am and single day events and had ten top-20 finishes on the JLPGA.
