PLNU Volleyball alumna Flavia Virgili completed her first season as Assistant Coach in 2024, helping the Sea Lions to their best ever record (26-2) and NCAA West Regional victory.
Â
"I'm so excited to welcome Flavia back," Head Coach Jonathan Scott said. "She has both playing and coaching experience here at Loma already, and I believe she is ready for the next step in this coaching journey of hers. I'm glad it's back home here at Point Loma."
Â
Virgili, who was also on the PLNU staff in 2021, played one season at Point Loma in 2019 to finish her collegiate career after previously playing for San Diego Mesa College and Cal State San Bernardino.
Â
At San Diego Mesa, she served as team captain and was named team MVP after also earning First Team All-PCAC recognition. For the beach volleyball team, she placed third in the state.
Â
Then at CSUSB, she won both the CCAA and NCAA West Regional titles, while earning CCAA All-Academic honors.
Â
For the Sea Lions, she played in all 30 matches in 2019, recording 192 digs as a defensive specialist on a team that went 19-11 overall (15-7 PacWest).
Â
"I'm thrilled to be back coaching at PLNU with Coach Jon," Virgili said. "It truly feels like a full circle moment. I'm grateful to have the chance to give back and to step in the gym with the girls this season."
Â
Virgili, who currently also coaches at Coast Volleyball Club, has previous coaching experience at San Diego Mesa and San Diego Jewish Academy.
Â
She served as an assistant coach for the beach volleyball team at Mesa, leading the team to two conference titles. Virgili was the head coach for the San Diego Jewish Academy indoor volleyball team for two seasons, leading the team to the CIF Semifinals.
