After six years as a mental preformance consultant with Point Loma Women's Volleyball, Sarah Castillo became an assistant coach in charge of mental performance in 2018. Castillo is a Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) through the Association of Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) and has been working with individuals and teams from a variety of different sports for over 20 years.

Prior to coming to PLNU, Castillo was a performance enhancement instructor at the United States Military Academy, West Point, where she worked extensively with athletes and military cadets involved in 17 different intercollegiate sports and activities. During her time at West Point, Castillo helped to develop the Army Centers for Enhanced Performance programs, now offered at US Army installations all over the world.

In addition to her responsibilities at PLNU, Castillo is the program director for Sport and Performance Psychology graduate programs at University of Western States and is the mental performance consultant for USA Paralympic Track and Field.

Castillo is a California native, earning her BA in Psychology from UCLA and her MA in Kinesiology from Cal State Long Beach. She completed her Ph.D. in Education/Sport Psychology from the University of Idaho.Â

Castillo has been married to her husband Jim, an Army Veteran, for 16 years. They are both avid athletes and sports fans, and live in San Diego with their two dalmatians, Fenway and Dodger.
