Scott Hartley joined the Point Loma women’s volleyball program as an assistant coach in January of 2019.
He is responsible for recruiting, practice planning, team training, generating scouting reports, video breakdown, statistical analysis, and many other administrative roles.
Prior to joining PLNU, Hartley was a volunteer assistant coach with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. During his time there, he helped the Tar Heels reach a national ranking of 6th in the NCAA, win the ACC Championship, and finish with an overall record of 29-4.
Hartley also volunteered for USA Volleyball as a high performance and tryout coach in 2016-2017.
Hartley is a current professional volleyball player, playing for the Costa Mesa Stunners in the NVA League. In his first season in the NVA, Hartley lead his team to victory in the inaugural Championship Tournament. Before his time with the Stunners, he played on P.A.O.K Volleyball Club in Thessaloniki, Greece in the Greek A1 League and Champions League.
In 2015, Hartley graduated from the University of Hawai’i at Manoa, earning a degree in Sports Management & Marketing with a minor in Communicology. He played five years for the Men’s Volleyball Program and earned many accolades including a Scholar Athlete Award in 2014 and 2015. In his fifth year of playing, the Warriors held a #1 NCAA ranking for over 2 months and finished the year in the National Semifinals play-in match.
During college, Hartley also earned a silver medal on the USA-Hawai’i volleyball team that competed in Fukuoka, Japan at the 24th Asian Pacific Championship.
Hartley grew up just north of Point Loma in Encinitas, CA, and attended La Costa Canyon High School. While at school, he played on the volleyball team and won 3 consecutive Division 1 CIF San Diego Championships.
Scott is married to his wife Vanessa, a PLNU grad and a math teacher. They live in their hometown of Encinitas, where they both met.
