A strong second half from #25 Olivet Nazarene doomed PLNU on homecoming night, as the Sea Lions fell to the visiting Tigers 73-56 on Saturday night in front of a packed house at Golden Gymnasium.
PLNU struggled to get into a rhythm offensively until it was too late, while the Tigers came alive in the second half. ONU shot an astounding 78 percent from the field in the second half, hitting 21-of-27 shots and scoring 51 points.
Both teams struggled in what was a very low scoring first half. Each team shot 28.6 percent from the field, with the Sea Lions making only six shots. The Tigers went into the break leading 22-19.
After PLNU cut the lead to two, early in the second half, the Tigers went on an 18-4 run and the Sea Lions wouldn't recover. A couple of baskets by
Jake Johnston cut the Tiger lead to seven with 10:49 to play, but that was as close as PLNU would come.
Johnston was the leading scorer for PLNU with ten points, the only Sea Lion to score in double figures.
Greg Murray added eight points, but eventually fouled out.
ONU (3-1) was led by Tyler Wallenfang and Rashad Mitchell, who contributed 15 points apiece. Antonio Marshall added 14 points and Josh Bronke had seven assists in the win.
PLNU struggled from long-range, hitting just 3-of-17 from three-point land. The team shot much better overall in the second half at 46 percent, but the shooting woes from beyond the arc continued.
The Sea Lions fall to 1-3 with the loss, and will host Vanguard on Tuesday, December 1, to begin GSAC play.
