SAN DIEGO - Though the Sea Lions lost 69-92 to NAIA No. 3-ranked Azusa Pacific,
Kaitlyn Trotter still managed to shine, recording another double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds Saturday night in Golden Gymnasium.
The Cougars were in control for most of the GSAC tilt, taking a quick lead and heading into the break in front 56-39. APU's advantage stayed in double figures for the entire second half and was as much as 28 points.
Both teams shot 44 percent from the field and each side pulled in 40 rebounds; the difference was APU's first half barrage of threes. The Cougars were good on 9-for-11 from downtown in the opening stanza – and one of the misses was a last-second heave from half-court.
Azusa ended up making 12 threes in the game, compared to an 8-for-21 effort from PLNU. The Cougars made 14 from the stripe as well which was six more than the Sea Lions.
Another crucial stat was turnovers. APU gave it away just six times all game. Point Loma fumbled the ball 18 times, leading to 14 Cougar points.
In the entire 40 minutes of play, the lead never changed hands and the Sea Lions were simply unable to overcome APU's hot shooting.
PLNU's Brittany Stanley impressed in her time on the court, scoring 14 points for the Sea Lions and also pulling down five rebounds. Kiley Berlinski added ten points with Callie Rhoads scoring eight.
Alex Moore-Porter led APU with 18 points with Eboni Sadler adding 16.
The Cougars (9-2) improved their GSAC record to 3-1, while Loma (3-4) drops to 1-3 against conference foes.
The Sea Lions will host Holy Names University on Friday, Dec 17 at 5:30 pm.
