SAN DIEGO – Who needs the NBA when Sea Lion basketball is in season? The Point Loma Nazarene women's team scored more points against Arizona Christian than you would see in a typical professional game on Saturday evening in Golden Gymnasium.

Who needs the NBA when Sea Lion basketball is in season? The Point Loma Nazarene women's team scored more points against Arizona Christian then you would see in a typical professional game on Saturday evening in Golden Gymnasium.

The score was a record-setting 128-71. Point Loma has broken the100-point mark in a game nine times in the history of the program, but 128 points sets the record for highest ever.

When the Sea Lions reached 117 points with 5:41 left in the game, the all-time record (Nov. 2007 vs Olivet Nazarene) was tied. A Kiley Berlinski layup soon after broke it, and nine points more would set the new standard.

Arizona Christian still scored 71 points in the loss, which is actually worthy of a win in many NAIA women's games.

So what happened? How did the Sea Lions score 128 points? And how did they blowout the Firestorm by 57?

The teams played high-risk pressure defense, which leads to a lot of turnovers and a lot easy layups. That translates into a lot of points.

Arizona Christian turned over the ball 23 times, converting into 31 PLNU points. The Firestorm contributed just 13 points to the Sea Lions' turnovers.

Another huge factor, as it usually is in basketball, was rebounds. The Sea Lions outrebounded ACU 69 to 34. 23 of the 69 were offensive.

Point Loma scored 72 points in the paint as opposed to the Firestorm's 20.  The Sea Lions recorded a 69.6 shooting percentage.

Every single player from both teams, except one, scored a least two points on the night.

Arizona's Steffani Liscum was the Firestorm's highest scorer—and the highest scorer of the night—with 32 points and five rebounds.

For Point Loma, Crissa Jackson lead the team with 25 points and eight rebounds, but Nyla Bailey recorded a double-double with 24 points and 17 rebounds. Other Sea Lions in double digits were Joelle Herron (18), Jessy Ashton (10), Brittany Stanley (10), Brianna Colon (10), and Kiley Berlinski (13).

The Sea Lions are now 2-1 and will  face La Sierra University on Tuesday, Nov. 15 at 7 pm in Golden Gymnasium.
