SANTA CLARITA, Calif. -- The Master's Mustangs led from start to finish in cruising to a 77-58 women's basketball win over Point Loma Nazarene on Saturday night at Bross Gym.
Ella Joines hit a three-point basket for the hosts 35 seconds into the contest to give her team a 3-0 lead, and they would never be on the back end of the scoreboard the entire night. TMC improved to 16-9 overall with victory and moved to 9-7 in Golden State Athletic Conference action. Point Loma dropped to 10-14 on the season and to 5-11 in conference play.
The Master's shot a sizzling 55 percent from the field and drained eight of 19 three-point attempts. They also smothered the boards with a 39-23 rebound edge over the Sea Lions.
Theresa Brown had 16 points to lead a balanced Mustangs attack, while Erica Inge and Lena Rivera added 12 and Joines chipped in 11. Freshman Abby Boorman had 13 points to lead the visitors and three others were also in double figures: Crissa Jackson and Briana Colon with 11 and Callie Rhoads with 10. Jackson also had six assists and Colon paced her team with five rebounds.
The Sea Lions only fell to the Mustangs by one point earlier this season in San Diego, but tonight's game went a totally different direction early. The home team led by as many as 26 points in the first half before settling for a 43-22 margin at the break. They would stretch the margin to as many as 28 digits after intermission and PLNU would get no closer than 17 points in the final 20 minutes.
The Master's who snapped a two-game losing skid with the win, moved into a tie for sixth place in the GSAC standings while Point Loma remains entrenched in the eighth spot. The Sea Lions will be on the road this coming Tuesday (Feb. 15) when they travel to Concordia for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
