ALISO VIEJO, Calif. -- NAIA No. 18-ranked Point Loma Nazarene remained unbeaten after defeating Soka 4-0 Friday evening in the team's final non-conference tilt of the year. The Sea Lions improved to 8-0-1.
Though the final result has the Green and Gold winning 4-0; it was a dominating effort from the Loma defense which did not allow the Lions a single shot – goal or otherwise. It was the sixth consecutive shutout by Loma this year and it's been 459 minutes since the last time an opponent scored against the Sea Lions.
PLNU got off 20 shots against Soka, 11 on goal, scoring twice in each half. Goal scorers for PLNU were Brooke Winklepleck, Erica Wessels, Kelly Christerson and Carleigh Salassi. Two goals were given assists: Winklepleck's by Wessels and Wessels' by Tina Shoffeitt.
Loma also attempted 12 corners to zero from the Lions.
The Sea Lions' next opponent is at Azusa Pacific next Saturday. The match will mark the opening of conference play and begins at 3:30 p.m.
