box score

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. –  Point Loma Nazarene lost its second-straight Golden State Athletic Conference game on Saturday, falling at The Master's, 78-57. The Sea Lions were done in by their 21 turnovers and 12 Mustang three-pointers.

The Green and Gold fell to 12-8 overall, 3-5 GSAC. The Mustangs (9-11, 2-6) picked up just their second conference win of the season.

PLNUshot 43 percent (22-51) for the evening but managed to make just two attempts from behind the three-point line. The Sea Lions went to the free throw line 16 times, making 10.

The Mustangs, meanwhile, shot 47 percent from the field (28-60) and nearly that percentage (46%) from downtown. TMC also took care of the ball, turning it over just 11 times.

“The Master's played very hard and shot the ball very well, “said PLNU Coach Bill Westphal. “They are a very good young team and [Coach] Dan [Waldeck] has them playing very well. We had a tough week but we will get back to work on Monday. There is a lot of season left and I am sure we will get this turned around.”

The Sea Lions had a four-point lead three minutes into Saturday's conference tilt but would soon be overcome by the Mustangs who went into the break with a 34-24 advantage.

PLNU's deficit increased to 20 points four minutes into the second stanza and reached a game-high 27 at the eight-minute mark.

Nyla Bailey scored 20 points and grabbed four rebounds to lead the Sea Lions. Abby Boorman had 10 points and eight boards off the bench with Brianna Colon adding nine points to the loss.

Kimmy Iverson paced TMC with 20 points with Zoe Scott and Lena Rivera adding 13 and 11 points respectively in the win.

PLNU will try to get back on the winning track when they host Concordia on Tuesday. Tip-off is set for 5:30 pm.
