AZUSA, Calif. - The Point Loma women's soccer team had its five-match point streak snapped on Tuesday (Oct. 23) when it fell 2-0 at Azusa Pacific. This was just the second time all season PLNU had yielded more than one goal in a match.
The loss drops PLNU eight points off the pace set by Azusa Pacific atop the Pacific West Conference. The Cougars (11-5-0, 10-2-0 PacWest) lead the conference with 30 points while Point Loma (10-3-1, 7-2-1 PacWest) stands in fourth with 22 points. California Baptist and Grand Canyon have each won six straight matches to remain second and third in the PacWest standings with 27 and 26 points, respectively.
The Cougars scored their first goal in the 30th minute. Allie Stone gathered in a rebound and deposited it in the net for the goal. The match would remain at 1-0 until the 78 minute when Alyx Williams headed in Natalie Nick's corner kick.
Point Loma was never able to find a rhythm on offense. The Sea Lions, which had averaged 13.7 shots a contest, took only four shots on Tuesday, with just one on target. Meanwhile, APU put up 14 shots, with seven of those on goal.
Tiffany Kracy made five saves for the Sea Lions. Michelle Wieland had one save for the Cougars.
The Point Loma women's soccer team will look to get back into the win column on Thursday, Oct. 25th when they host Grand Canyon at 3:30 p.m. This will be the final home match and Senior Day for the Sea Lions.
