First half flury helps Cal Baptist oust PLNU

[Box score]

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Senior Andrew Sanders scored his first career goal for the Point Loma men's soccer team in the 32nd minute of the match to highlight the Sea Lions' performance in a 4-1 loss at Cal Baptist on Tuesday, Oct. 30.

Sanders scored unassisted when he dribbled the ball and beat the goal keeper with a shot across the box into the right side of the net for the score. This goal cut the Lancers' lead to 2-1, but the Sea Lions would get no closer than that.

Michael Salazar was the offensive spark plug for California Baptist with two goals and two assists. He assisted on the opening goal of the match in the 11th minute when he found Tyler Garrison. Salazar would then score the first of his two goals in the 30th minute.

Salazar added another assist in the first half when connected with Tyler Aagard for the goal off a corner kick. Salazar would end the scoring by notching his second goal 16 seconds into the second half to push the Lancers' lead to 4-1.

The shots on both sides were even at 10-10. Kenny Ortega led the Sea Lions' effort with four total shots. Daniel ten Bosch had two of PLNU's four shots on goal. Carter Phillips made two saves for Point Loma and Ian Clark had three for the Lancers (12-3-2, 10-2-1 PacWest).

The season will continue for Point Loma (2-14-0, 1-11-0 PacWest) on Thursday, Nov. 1 at Fresno Pacific. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
