SAN RAFAEL, Calif. - The 2012 season came to a close on Saturday (Nov. 3) for the Point Loma men's soccer team as they fell to Dominican 2-1.
The scoring all came in a five-minute flurry. First DU's Kolby Mitnick scored in the 35th minute to put the Penguins on top.
Niko Acosta answered with the equalizer in the 39th minute when he beat the goal keeper on an assist from
Dylan Wingrove. This was the first goal of the season for the senior from Cracas, Venezuela.
That lead would be short lived. Just one minute later Dominican went back on top 2-1 on a goal that proved to be the game-winner by Pedro Guevara.
All nine of Point Loma's shots were on goal, and all but once Dominican's goal keeper Casey Gibson stopped them. The Sea Lions had six shots on goals in the first half and three in the second but only Acosta's shot found the back of the net.
Daniel ten Bosch led the way with four shots on goal.
Carter Phillips made three saves for Point Loma.
