SAN DIEGO, Calif.—Point Loma Nazarene women's basketball team suffered a 66-55 loss to NAIA No.11-ranked Vanguard University in the team's last regular season conference game in Saturday night.

On “Senior Night,” six seniors (Jessy Ashton, Alex Chatfield, Brianna Colon, Lindsy Hill, Crissa Jackson, Brittany Stanley) competed in their last contest ever in Golden Gymnasium and it was the final Golden State Athletic Conference contest for PLNU which leaves the NAIA for the NCAA DII and the Pacific West Conference next year.

However, despite the loss, the Sea Lions will move on to the GSAC Tournament next week... against the very same Vanguard team.

The visiting Lions opened up the half Saturday with eight three pointers, forcing PLNU to play catch up all night. The two squads entered the break with VUSC up 43-24.

Vanguard pushed their lead to a game-high 23 with 11:43 remaining in the game. The Green and Gold kept battling, though, and closed the gap to 11 points at the end of the conference tilt.

The Sea Lions' shooting percentage was just one percent shorter than VU's (43.4 percent to 42.3 percent); they rebounded the ball only three fewer times (32-29). But the Lions led from start to finish and after the fast start, the margin from the first few minutes of the game was just too large for PLNU to slim down.

Senior Crissa Jackson tallied 19 points and three rebounds while four-year veteran Brianna Colon had 11 points and two rebounds. Andrea Campbell recorded a team-high five rebounds in the loss.

Nine VUSC players scored, led by 11 points from both Paige Halberg and Esther Timmermans, who also had 10 rebounds.

The Sea Lions (17-13) finish with an 8-10 record in the GSAC. They will open GSAC tournament play as the sixth seed on Wednesday, Feb 29 at three-seed Vanguard. The Lions defeated PLNU 71-52 in Costa Mesa earlier this year.
