A LOOK AT THE SEA LIONS:
Point Loma is currently 3-8 on the season and 0-4 in the Pacific West Conference. Taylor Wetherell has stepped up at the point guard position since the calendar changed to 2013. In two games he is averaging 12.5 points, 2.5 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game. He has also hit five shots from behind the arc. Trevor Peterson has also stepped up as a scoring option from outside for PLNU since rejoining the team after an injury four games ago. He is averaging 7.3 points and has hit at least one trey in each contest. Todd Campbell leads the team with 7.4 ppg. AJ Ussery paces the team in rebounds (5.7) and assists (2.5).

As a team, the Sea Lions continue to hang their hat on their defensive efforts to keep them in games. They are limiting opponents to just 56.8 points per game and 39 percent shooting from the field. The Sea Lions are also outrebounding their opponents, have a better assists-to-turnover ratio and connected on more 3-pointers.

A LOOK AT AZUSA PACIFIC:
The Cougars are 5-5 on the season and 2-0 in the PacWest. They recently defeated Fresno Pacific at home 88-67 to break a three-game losing streak. Troy Leaf leads the team with 18.2 points and 5.4 assists. He is shooting 48 percent from the field and 43 percent from long range. BJ Porter is also averaging 15.4 points and 3.8 treys made per game. Porter and Leaf combine to score 44 percent of APU's 76.5 points on the season. Point Loma and Azusa Pacific met earlier this season on Dec. 1 in the PacWest opener for both teams. Leaf sank two free throws with 4.5 seconds remaining to spoil Todd Campbell's late tip-in and lift the Cougars over Point Loma, 51-50.

A LOOK AT CALIFORNIA BAPTIST:
The Lancers have dropped two straight PacWest games to fall to 7-4 on the season and 1-2 in conference. All five starters for CBU are averaging in double-figures with Anthony Cosentino's 15.7 ppg leading the way. Preseason All-PacWest selection Luke Evans is averaging 14.6 ppg and 6.9 rebounds to rank second on the team in both categories. As a team, CBU outrebounds its opponents by 7.7 boards a game. The Lancers lead the PacWest in rebounding margin and blocked shots (4.9). This is the first meeting of the season between CBU and PLNU.

NEXT UP:
Following the game with CBU, Point Loma will have a week-long competition hiatus before traveling to Arizona on Jan. 19 to face Grand Canyon.
