A LOOK AT THE SEA LIONS:
Point Loma wrapped up its non-conference schedule with a 2-2-0 record. After dropping its first two matches on the road to Cal State Dominguez Hills and UC San Diego, PLNU returned home to earn a pair of victories. The Sea Lions picked up a 7-0 win over Southern Nazarene to snap a 16-match losing streak for the program dating back to last season. Point Loma backed up that win with a 2-1 victory in overtime against Montana State Billings.
Daniel ten Bosch scored two goals and had three assists in the two wins. He now leads the PacWest with seven points on the season. He and
Nico Tagaloa are also tied for fourth in conference with two goals apiece. Goalkeeper
Carter Phillips is second in the conference with 18 stops on the season.
TEN BOSCH NAMED PACWEST PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Sophomore forward
Daniel ten Bosch was named the Pacific West Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 9-15. Ten Bosch scored two goals and had three assists to lead the PLNU men's soccer team to a perfect 2-0 record on the week. This was the Sea Lions' first back-to-back wins since 2011. The Irvine, Calif., native (Woodbridge HS), scored a goal and had three assists in PLNU's dominating 7-0 effort against Southern Nazarene. Ten Bosch then scored the first goal of the match against Montana State Billings on a nice feed from
Jonathan Tiggs. The Sea Lions would go on to win the contest in overtime on a goal by
Tyler Allen.
TAGALOA EARNS FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK:
Midfielder
Nico Tagaloa (Orange, CA/Foothill) was selected the Pacific West Conference Men's Soccer Freshman of the Week for the week of Sept. 9-15. Tagaloa recorded four points on a pair of goals during a 2-0 week for the Sea Lions. He scored both goals during a 7-0 win over Southern Nazarene on Sept. 12, tallying the game-winner at the 11 minute mark in the first period and then putting the match out of reach with his second goal of the half in the 38th minute. The Freshman of the Week honor is awarded each week to a freshman or redshirt freshman for his overall outstanding play. This is the first year the PacWest has presented the weekly honor.
A LOOK AT THE PENGUINS:
Dominican will enter Thursday's contest at 1-2-1. Last week the Penguins picked up points in both matches as they defeated Saint Martin's 2-0 and then tied Menlo College 1-1. This will be their fourth home match of the young season. Swap Mushiana is tied for the PacWest lead with three goals on the season. DU is allowing 1.89 goals per match and has been doubled up by their opponent on shots this season.
A LOOK AT THE ARGONAUTS:
Notre Dame de Namur has started the 2013 campaign at 1-3-0. The Argonauts have dropped their past two matches, both on the road. They lost at Western Washington 2-1 and then fell at Seattle Pacific 2-0. Jonathan Gonzalez has two of NDNU's three goals this season. Jack Ewert has the other. This season the Argonauts are allowing 1.48 goals per match.
