CARSON, Calif. - Cal State Dominguez Hills' Heriberto Ponce scored two goals to lead the Toros to a 4-0 win over the Point Loma men's soccer team on Thursday, Sept. 5. This match was the season opener for both teams.

Ponce's goals were two of the four CSUDH posted in the opening period. The Toros notched their first goal in the fourth minute and then Ponce scored the first of his two goals in the 25th minute to put CSUDH up 2-0. They would tack on others in the 34th and 41st minutes to take a 4-0 into the locker room.

In the second half the Toros did not let up as they took 11 shots compared to nine in the first but PLNU was able to keep all of them out of the net. The Sea Lions were outshot 20-8 in the contest.

Carter Phillips had seven saves to lead PLNU. Markus Dickerson paced CSUDH with two saves.

Next up for the Point Loma men's soccer team will be a match on the road against UC San Diego on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 4:30 p.m.
