Â
PLNU seized the early lead with a 12-2 run midway through the first half and never relinquished its advantage despite APU once tying the game and two other times in the second half the Cougars came within two, but each time Point Loma answered to maintain their lead. They closed out the game by making seven of their final eight free throws in the last 3:25 of play.
Â
The Sea Lions also held the edge in the turnover battle 19-13 and outscored the Cougars in the paint 30-12. The PLNU defense also held the PacWest's leading scorer Kelly Hardeman (21.9 ppg) to just 12 points on 4-of-21 shooting.
