Sunbirds sneak past Sea Lions

SAN DIEGO - Point Loma won points at both No. 1 and No. 2 singles and doubles but it was not quite enough as Fresno Pacific snuck past the Sea Lions men's tennis team 5-4 on Friday, Feb. 21.

The match began in singles play where Brooks Baldinger defeated Thomas Gely in straight sets 6-4 and 6-3 to register a point for PLNU. Zablan followed that up with a 6-3 and 6-2 win over Kyle Rowe in No. 2 singles. However, FPU showed its team depth by winning No. 3-6 in singles to lead 4-2 entering doubles play.

Point Loma kept the match close as Zablan and Baldinger teamed up to win at No. 1 doubles, 8-6, and Kaptan Kaster and Daniel Milliken won at No. 2 doubles 8-3. But it was just a little too late for the Sea Lions as FPU captured the crucial fifth point of the match in No. 3 doubles, 8-1.

Fresno Pacific is now 6-1 on the season while Point Loma drops to 0-5.

The PLNU men's tennis team will return to action tomorrow (Feb. 22) when it hosts Holy Names at Noon.
