FRESNO, Calif. - The Point Loma men's basketball team outscored Fresno Pacific by 21 points in the second half, including going on an 18-3 run in the final 3:34, to defeat the Sunbirds on the road, 89-69, on Saturday, Feb. 8.
Junior Morgan came off the bench to score a game-high 25 points and grab eight rebounds for the Sea Lions (13-8, 8-7 PacWest). He went 7-of-9 from the field and 11-for-14 at the free throw line.
Hayden Lescault also added 20 points for PLNU, the eighth time he has reached the 20-point plateau this season.
Judd Welfringer also came off the bench to post 14 points. and
Marek Klassen hit three 3-pointers en route to notching 13 points and six assists.
Malcolm Griffin led three FPU student-athletes in double-figures with 22 points. He also added eight assists.
The game was tied 57-57 with 9:07 left when PLNU seized control of the contest with a 12-3 run to go on top 69-60. FPU then cut the lead to five (71-66) on a pair of free throws by Griffin with 3:34 remaining but the Sea Lions then went on an 18-3 run to close the game and capture their fourth PacWest road win of the season.
Point Loma shot 53 percent in the game and had just 11 turnovers compared to 18 for the Sunbirds. The Sea Lions also made 20-of-24 shot at the free throw line and their bench outscored FPU's 46-11. PLNU also outscored Fresno Pacific 44-20 on points in the paint and 29-14 in points off turnovers.
The Sea Lions' next game will be Tuesday, Feb. 11 at home against Chaminade (13-8, 10-3 PacWest). Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
