Box Score AZUSA, Calif. -
Nico Tagaloa picked up his first goal of the season but it came too late for the Point Loma men's soccer team as they fell on the road to Azusa Pacific 4-1 on Saturday, Sept. 27.
The match was the Pacific West Conference opener for Azusa Pacific. The Cougars are now 4-1-0 on the season and 1-0-0 in the PacWest. PLNU fell to 0-2-0 in the PacWest (0-5-1 overall).
Tagaloa scored in the 80th minute on a shot from the top of the box that got over the scrum and just cleared the keeper's fingers. However, that goal came after APU had four goals already on the board.
The Cougars' first score came in the ninth minute when Keenan Armbrust found Raul Martinez in the box for a shot from 18 yards out. A goal by Carlos Garcia-Partida in the 25th minute would put APU up 2-0 at the half. Armbrust would add two second-half goals to help the Cougars build a 4-0 lead before Tagaloa registered his first goal of the season.
APU outshot PLNU just 10-8, but 6-3 on shots on goal with four of those finding the net.
The Sea Lions' next contest will not be any easier as they go to San Diego State on Tuesday, Sept. 30 for a match starting at 7:00 p.m.
