HONOLULU, Hawaii -
Riley Abraham recorded her second double-double in her last three games but it was not enough to help the Point Loma women's basketball team overcome four Hawaii Pacific student-athletes in double-figures as it fell 85-62 Monday, Jan. 5.
Â
With the win the Sharks remain the only undefeated team in conference play. They are now 6-0 in the PacWest and 11-2 overall. The Sea Lions (4-8) dropped to 2-3 in the conference.
Â
Kylie Huerta scored a career-high 27 points for HPU, including matching the school-record with six 3-pointers. She also added nine rebounds and four assists. Morganne Comstock provided the Sharks with a double-double as she scored 14 points and pulled down 14 rebounds.
Â
Riley Abraham recorded her second double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. She went 5-of-9 from the field and seven of her rebounds came on the offensive glass.
Roya Rustamzada and
Jessica Escorza each scored 12 points to lead the Sea Lions.
Â
The game was tied at 10-10 before the Sharks made an 11-0 to take the double-digit led. A layup by Escorza ended the run and cut the lead back to single-digits, but this would be the last time the Sea Lions would have the deficit below 10.
Â
"Hawaii Pacific's starting five are really skilled," said Point Loma head coach
Bill Westphal. "They have played together for a few years now and they can all really shoot.
Â
"We needed to bring our 'A' game against them but we had our 'C' game tonight," Westphal continued. "We have to learn from this, go back to the drawing board and do better next time."
Â
Point Loma will conclude its Hawaii road trip on Wednesday, Jan. 7 at Hawaii Hilo (3-6, 2-3 PacWest). The game will tip off at 7:00 p.m. (PST).Â
