RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The Point Loma women's basketball team suffered its first loss of the season, falling 60-44 to Cal State LA on Saturday, Nov. 28 at the CBU Thanksgiving Invitational.
Â
The loss snapped the Sea Lions' (5-1) five game winning streak to start the season. CSULA is now 2-3.
Â
Point Loma shot just 22 percent in the game, including 19 percent in the first half as they trailed 28-18 at the break. PLNU did cut the lead to four points midway through the fourth quarter but it never did take over the lead. The 44 points were a season-low for PLNU.
Â
Madison West was the only Sea Lion to reach double-figures as she posted 14 points. She has been in double-figures in all six games this season.
Â
Bree Parsons had 18 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Golden Eagles. Rikki Fabricius and Chiara DiMarco also chipped in with 14 and 16 points, respectively.
Â
"It was a combination of poor shooting, fouling and not rebounding that cost us," said PLNU assistant coach
Dwayne Cosby. "Despite all of that we still had a chance to win this game."
Â
The Sea Lions will return home to start PacWest play on Thursday, Dec. 3 against Azusa Pacific. The game will tipoff at 5:30 p.m. As part of the night PLNU Athletics will also be hosting Military Night to honor members of the Armed Forces.
Â
"This is a game you burn," Cosby continued, "and you come ready for a very good APU team on Thursday."Â
